Chinese Whispers or, as the locals have it, Stille Post

By FAM :: 11 October 2005

In the Chrämerhuus in Langenthal two writers, Andrea Ihlenfeld and Ursula Wyssand two painters, Jürg Neuenschwander and Rolf Christen are having an exhibition that's really worth seeing: Chinese Whispers, or as the area is German-speaking, Stille Post.

The concept is an interesting one: Andrea started the chains by writing a prose piece, Jürg used it as an inspiration for a painting, Ursula wrote a poem on the basis of the painting, but without knowing the original text; her poem in return was the basis for another painting, this time by Rolf.

The texts and the paintings are exhibited in sequence in the gallery rooms of the Chraemerhuus, which were painted in bright colours to complement the feel of the works. In this way one has the feeling of walking through an installation, being present at a reading and seeing an exhibition of paintings.

The exhibition is open from 7 to 15 October between 5 and 10 p.m
and on 16 October between 3 and 8 p.m..

Negotiations have been started to have the show on these very pages. We'll keep you informed.

In the meantime congratulations to Andrea, Jürg, Ursula and Rolf for an intriguing project, carefully and sensitively presented and set up in an environment that complements it very well indeed.
